The Post 130 Family
The Legion Family supports veterans, their families, their children, and many other charities. Individually, each group has certain “pet” projects, but everyone comes together in their desire to continue to serve our country.
The American Legion Auxiliary was founded in 1919, to assist the Legion in its mission to care for veterans. Through the years, the Auxiliary has created its own unique identity, while working with the veterans of the American Legion. Today they are the world’s largest women’s patriotic service, with over 1 million members from all walks of life. The interests of the Auxiliary have expanded to cover the community as a whole, and through the work of their volunteers, they raise millions of dollars annually to assist various charities.
The Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) was founded in 1932 to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. S.A.L members include men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the US military and were eligible to be members of the American Legion. Despite having their own membership, the S.A.L. is a program of the American Legion. The mission of the Sons of the American Legion is to support the four pillars of the American Legion: preserving American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation’s children, caring for veterans and their families, and teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.
The American Legion Riders grew out of an idea by two Legionnaires in 1993 to create a motorcycle enthusiasts organization within the American Legion. In 2007, the Riders were established as a program of the American Legion, meaning each group must be attached to a local post and agree to uphold the declared principles of the American Legion. With this in mind, Frank Gallino Post 130 created a Legion Riders group in 2016.
